With a career spanning over five decades, it’s no surprise that Clint Eastwood’s life is surrounded by secrets, gossip and rumour.
The all-American actor rose to fame back in the ’60s when he appeared in the TV series Rawhide and Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Western Dollars trilogy.
After many years on the screen he later switched to be being behind the camera and while he became a well-decorated director, his life was still swamped by scandal.
Here is the incredible life story of Clint Eastwood.
A Heavy Baby
Clint Eastwood Jr was born in San Francisco in 1930 to a working class family. After he was born the hospital nurses gave him an unusual nickname of Samson – it claimed this was because of his heavy weight. He weighed almost 12 pounds when he was born, double the weight of a normal baby.
Career Making Role
One of the actors most famous roles was The Man With No Name in Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy, however it turns out Eastwood was not first choice. The role was first offered to other famous names, such as Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and Richard Harrison. It was actually Richard Harrison who put Clint forward for the role. Leone wasn’t keen but he eventually decided to cast the enthusiastic actor.
As well as being a extremely talented actor, Eastwood has also won Academy Awards for his directing. He won Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture for his movies Unforgiven (1992) and Million Dollar Baby (2004) and received nominations for Best Actor too.
